Webroot announced the availability of e-mail security product in a Software as a Service model. The product is targeted at small and medium businesses.

An excerpt from Tech News World:

“At enterprise-class levels …, security management is difficult and complex — and therefore often unfulfilled,” said Mike Irwin, chief operating officer at Boulder, Colo.-based Webroot. “This is especially true in SMBs with limited security resources. SaaS solutions redefine perimeter security by eliminating the pain and cost of hardware and software management.”

The offering has several advantages, such as taking the task of updating virus definitions away from firms, plus there are more up-to-date definitions and a reduction in the total cost of ownership.

The product is result of Webroot’s merger with e-mail systems late last year.
