Controlling keys and combinations can be a manager’s nightmare.  Loss of a set of keys, for example, can result in replacement of all affected locks–hopefully BEFORE a criminal has a chance to use them.  A new lock technology will help with this problem.

Access Control & Security Systems Magazine’s 2006 New Product of the Year is system of wireless locks (Randy Southerland, “Wireless Locks Open New World of Access Control“, December 2006).  Designed by SimonsVoss Technologies, the high security version of the lock system supports both an RFID transponder and biometrics to grant access to an authorized person.  Access validation, allowed access times, and other management tasks are performed on a PC.  The PC communicates with the locks via wireless.

Replacing a standard tumbler lock takes about 15 minutes.
