The defacto standard to-do list application in the Google Play Store is Evernote. However, one app could give Evernote a run for its
money — and it’s called Wunderlist.

The Wunderlist app allows you to manage and share a daily to-do
list. The feature list is fairly impressive. There are three different versions: Free, Pro ($4.99 per month), and Pro for Teams (call for pricing). With the
free version, you can:

  • Sync across all your devices
  • Share lists
  • Save important deadlines

With the Pro version, you add the following features:

  • Add comments to to-do lists
  • Converse with your teammates about to-do lists
  • Leave feedback, ask a question, or add some extra
    insight
  • Attach files (photos, spreadsheets, presentation
decks, PDFs, videos, and even sound bites) to any to-do list
  • Assign to-do lists
  • Add unlimited subtasks

So, if you’re looking for a basic to-do list (that allows
you to sync), the free version will do just fine. If you consider yourself a
power user, the Pro version offers enough features to possibly even ween you from
the ever-powerful Evernote.

Let’s install and use Wunderlist.

Installation

The installation of Wunderlist is simple. Just follow
these directions:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android tablet
  2. Search
    for “wunderlist” (no quotes)
  3. Tap
the entry for “Wunderlist – To-do & Task List”
  4. Tap
    Install
  5. Tap
    Accept

Once the installation is complete, you’ll find the launcher for Wunderlist in
your app drawer or on your home screen (or both). Tap the launcher to open the
application and begin your journey.

Usage

When you first run Wunderlist, you’ll be asked to create
an account. I recommend creating a free account to test it out. If you decide to upgrade, go to the Wunderlist site and sign up for a Pro plan.  Once you’ve signed up and logged in, you’ll
be asked to add an image for your profile. You can do this from either your
Gallery or your camera (or you can skip this step). With the photo in place,
you’ll be taken to your Wunderlist main screen (Figure A).

By default, you’ll see five lists:

  • Private
  • Work
  • Shopping
  • Movies to Watch
  • Wishlist

You can also create specific lists to
fit your needs. For example, if you manage numerous projects, you can create a list for
each project. To create a list, tap the Add a list button, and then enter the
name of the list. Once you’ve created that list, you can begin adding to-do
list items to it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Tap
the list you want the item to belong to
  2. Tap
    Add an item
  3. Enter
    the item text
  4. Tap
    Send

With the item created, tap it to reveal the item
properties (Figure B), where you can set the due date of the item, a
reminder, a subtask, add notes, add files, and add comments.

You can also invite friends to join the default lists or
the lists you’ve created. Here’s how:

  1. Tap
    the list to be shared
  2. Tap
the plus sign [+] to the right of the list
  3. Tap
    Invite Friends (Figure C)
  4. Either
select friends from the list or, if they aren’t listed, enter their email
    address
  5. Tap
    Done

Adding friends to a list is simple.

The added friend will get an email invite to Wunderlist.
Once they’ve created an account, all they have to do is click the Join List button within the email, and they’ll be included with that list. Once the friend has joined the list, they can begin collaborating on tasks with you. When either you or your friends
have added tasks to that list, they’ll automatically sync with your
Wunderlist account (and show up on the device).

If you’re looking for a to-do list app to possibly supplant
Evernote as your default, Wunderlist is a very  good candidate. Give this app a try, and see if it doesn’t help you organize your projects
and tasks with power and ease.
