British Gas has appointed TalkTalk CIO David Cooper to take over as chief information officer from April this year.
British Gas has been without a dedicated CIO since Dave Bickerton became CIO for British Gas parent company Centrica last year.
Cooper will be responsible for delivering the British Gas IS strategy.
A spokesman for British Gas said: "The strategy has been focusing on improving customer service and ensuring we continue to be able to deliver innovation, such as iPhone apps."
While at TalkTalk, Cooper was responsible for integrating TalkTalk's IT systems with those of ISP Tiscali, which TalkTalk parent company Carphone Warehouse bought in May 2009 for £236m.
Before joining TalkTalk, Cooper was chief technology and operations officer at mobile operator 3 and has also worked for BT.
