Comic-Con 2011: Star Wars fan movie winners

Find out which entries won the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge at Comic-Con, including the very cool George Lucas Selects Award.

Each year for Comic-Con International in San Diego, creators of Star Wars fan movies are able to submit their films into the Star Wars Fan Movie contest. Out of the nearly 300 entrants this year, 22 were selected as finalists. Winners are chosen from these finalists for each of the following categories and are given a droid statue:

  • Best Fan Fiction
  • Best Acting
  • Spirit of Fandom
  • Best Comedy
  • Best Sequel
  • Audience Choice Award
  • Best Animated Feature
  • George Lucas Selects Award

The most coveted of these is the George Lucas Selects Award because Lucas chooses his favorite film and helps present the award, this year via video. This year's winner is Eliot Sirota with Star Wars: Unlimited Power. Unlimited Power is a commercial for The Generous Jawa Emporium, specializing in used droids, at Mos Eisley Spaceport on Tatooine. This video is the creator's impression of what commercials would be like in the Star Wars universe.

Check out the rest of this year's winners and all of the finalists at the Atom Star Wars channel page. You can even watch all of the entrants' videos.

If you were George Lucas, which finalist would you have chosen?  Share your thoughts in the comments.
