Everybody I know who has an iPhone or an iPod Touch loves apps. This holiday, give a gift that you know will be used and appreciated with an iTunes gift card that the recipient can use to purchase the apps of their choice.

Many people may balk at the idea of giving a gift card -- gift cards are often seen as being thoughtless and easy gifts that you give when you don't know what else to give, or you're too lazy to put effort into the gift giving process. Since the only way to give iPhone apps is with an iTunes gift card, you can include a list of apps that you think the receiver will enjoy, thus showing that you put thought and effort into the gift. You can use this Geek Gifts list as a guide. (I also suggest putting the World of Warcraft iPhone app, which is free, on any geek's list.)

Geeky apps that are less than $5

Binary Clock by Peter Elst: This very geeky app shows the time in binary. Cost: $0.99 Geek Purity Test by Scott Falbo: You can earn yourself some geek cred by taking the test! Cost: $2.99 iZombieland by Sony Pictures Television: A zombie video game based on a zombie movie. Cost: $3.99

Geeky apps between $6.99-$9.99

Dungeon Hunter by Gameloft: A dungeon-based fantasy game that is sure to thrill and entertain the geek on your holiday shopping list. Cost: $6.99 The Sims 3 by Electronic Arts Games: Every geek respects The Sims for what it did for video game technology. Now you can play it on your iPhone. Cost: $6.99 Appleseed Anime Network by ZooVision Entertainment, LLC: Using a Wi-Fi network, the user can stream the Appleseed anime movie. Other bonuses, including discussion boards and iPhone wallpapers are included in the package. What geek doesn't love anime? Cost: $7.99 Madden NFL 10 by Electronic Arts Games: Because even geeks like football. (Take a look at CNET's image gallery of this game.) Cost: $9.99 Panorama by iPhone Guys Limited: This app allows you to easily piece together photos taken on the iPhone into panoramic views. It isn't as geeky as the other apps on this list, but it's really useful. Cost: $9.99

What I like

Apps are useful and are sure to be appreciated.

What I don't like

You have to buy an iTunes gift card and let the receiver purchase and download the apps.
