Sci-Fi writers + Homeland Security = Project Sigma

For those who haven't heard, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has hired a few science fiction writers--including Greg Bear, Jerry Pournelle, and Sage Walker--to help think up crazy-impossible doomsday scenarios so that Uncle Sam can have the appropriate procedures and countermeasures in place.

(Actually, the so-called Sigma group was formed 15 years ago, but the media and DHS just noticed.) My Elves are Different has a nice take on the idea, including the suggestion that we formally sanction the Vice Presidential Action Rangers, as profiled in video above.
