Edmond Woychowsky says he is up for playing his family in Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock to ensure he can watch the The Big Bang Theory.
I have a friend who periodically calls me and asks, "So, what are we obsessing about now?" My friend and I have worked together on and off for around 20 years, so he knows that there's usually one television show that I watch religiously. My current obsession to use my friend's phrase is The Big Bang Theory, which is starting its third season tonight, September 21st on CBS. (Note: TechRepublic is a CBS Interactive brand.)
If you're not familiar with the show, it follows a group of geeks in Southern California. Like geeks anywhere, they have issues that revolve around social awkwardness, their obsessions, and being too smart for their own good. Although, one of the characters, Leonard, appears to be attempting to work on his social issues with his neighbor, Penny — or perhaps he is spiraling down like a satellite trapped in Penny's gravitational field to his doom.
Sheldon, Leonard's roommate, is one of those incredibly intelligent people who, unfortunately, knows that he's incredibly intelligent and makes sure that everyone else knows it too. There is a quality about Sheldon that is simultaneously naive and annoying; a part of me wouldn't want to see him lost in New York City, but if he was lost in NYC, another part of me would like to see him hit by a bus.
Penny, who is a waitress, lives across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon. While not on the same IQ level as the boys, she has the ability to function in the world — unless, of course, the world isn't occupied by Klingons, Cylons, or Elves.
So, tonight I am fully prepared to decide with my family on what to watch at 9:30 Eastern Time in a mature, grown-up manner. Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock anyone? (Check out the Rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock t-shirt.)
