A movie trailer has to be pretty amazing to make it worth watching as a blurry, in-the-distance covert capture from somebody's cell phone. This sneak peak at Tron 2 from Comic-Con International accomplishes that rare feat. (Note: The current video link is no longer available. For now, you can still see the trailer on Gizmodo.)
It's events like this that unite fandom, and really make you wish you could be in San Diego for the Comic-Con. Fans at the screening didn't know what trailer was being shown. You can actually feel the excitement build in the room. You overhear someone near the phonecam mutter "Tron?" a few seconds in, giddy at the possibility. The first of several cheers erupts when the initial Tron warrior appears. Then, all heck breaks lose when the lightcycles show up. Finally, the gang is about to tear the roof off when original Tron star Jeff Bridges appears onscreen. By the time we get to the closing title sequence, there are thousands of fanboys ready to plunk down $12 bucks to see this two-decades-in-the-waiting sequel.
I wasn't even there, and I feel the same.
