Anybody want to see the first appearance of Boba Fett? A week ago, I spun off a little trivia about the infamously awful 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, which aired on CBS. If you thought Episode I was bad, this train wreck of a sci-fi variety show makes The Phantom Menace look like Blade Runner. (Amazingly, this show was written by Pat Proft, who would go on to help write my all-time favorite geek movie, Real Genius.) Most Star Wars fans would agree, however, that there was one redeeming segment in the two-hour morass of kitschy muscial numbers and cheeseball effects: "The Faithful Wookiee," a 10-minute animated short which introduced the world to the nefarious bounty hunter Boba Fett. It won't win any Oscars, but it is a mildly entertaining footnote in Star Wars history. Enjoy.
