This tip in Windows Vista shows you how to put common Start menu items on your desktop.
If you are like me and you do not like to click the Start button to get to the control panel or your documents, check out this tip on adding icons to your desktop from the Start orb. Click the Start and right-click on your folder and choose Show on Desktop (Figure A).

You can now repeat this process and right-click on Control Panel and choose Show on Desktop (Figure B).
