A 1st for me - I'm going to thank folks ...

By OldER Mycroft ·
As some of you folk know, Sonja emailed me at some point in the last 10 Days, and her virus came straight down the ether to me... and I've been coughing and spluttering ever since. - Nice one Sonja!!

(She appears back on TROLOV, resplendent on what I've been assured (by TiggerTwo), is not self-assembly wooden flooring and I sit shivering in the candlelight of my poor little Scots bothy, watching her return to stardom on the - well... on the Nitrogen Triflouride screens that we all apparently favour these days).

A PLOP through my letter box this morning. Yeah! (Don't get much personal mail..) A Christmas Card - aye, the same handwriting as that old reprobate.

But it's NOT, it WASN'T, eh... it ISN'T - it's from TR! - I assume this is just another of my long, lonely steps into the world of the TRUE TR peer? Something that I have to take on the chin, just wait until it's MY turn <sob, sob>. Oh well... there's always next year when I can then say THANK YOU for my 2nd Christmas Card from TR.

In all honesty, it took me completely by surprise - and I REALLY do appreciate it!

Cheers Guys - and that other sex that I don't totally trust.

I'll celebrate it by sleeping in.
No card here either, I don' texpect the love and will just assume that the mailman's dog team got lost.

Actually no snow yet, plenty of sunshine though. They say we may get a sprinkle at the end of the week, but sun all weekend.

I'd like to see some snow, just so I can feel what it would be like to live in the great white south.

TechRepublic wishes all of our members a Happy Holiday!

by Sonja Thompson Staff In reply to A 1st for me - I'm going ...

Here's the story...

TechRepublic has 1,656,414 members. So, no - not everyone received a card from us this year. The big question was, who gets them? What's the criteria? The top 100? And what if a discussion was started on the site (like this one), and the members who DIDN'T receive a card felt jilted?

I decided to create my Christmas card list directly from the TR Member Spotlight interviews. Everyone who subjected themselves to my barrage of questions in 2008 will receive one -- with the exception of two people who are already on my Spotlight list for 2009.

And yes, they are hand written - but some of us TR editorial folks have joked about ordering a signature stamp for next year.

Card or no card, we certainly wish all of our members a very happy holiday season.

Jilted members

by CharlieSpencer In reply to TechRepublic wishes al ...

Frankly, that's why I didn't start this discussion yesterday. I was sure the mailing list was pretty small and I didn't want to get members ticked off at you. Sappy Holidays.

Say, what's in this egg nog?

More specifically....

Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum.

I recall a situation 25 years ago, when I bought Captain Morgan's spiced for egg nog at a friend's party. The friend, a fairly opionated female, was shocked. She had thought Bacardi's white, which is fine for a Mohito, but not IMHO egg nog. I tried to compromise with a golden, but she insisted I go back and get the white. I kept the spiced for myself and had some great eggnog.

A few years later, at an infamous company Christmas party (I think I tell this every year) at my first computer employer, some of the staff made egg nog from scratch, including devonshire clotted cream. Of course the rum involved was Captain Morgan's oh man, it was ambrousia.
