A challenge for the top 100 Come on guys lets step up

A challenge was issued to the top 100 and beyond to step up and show support for our own TiggerTwo. The suject of the discussion may not have jumped right out at everyone so I thought I would put this out there to help get the word out. The challenge is for the Top 100 TR’s to change their avaitar to a pink ribbon in support of Tig’s participation in the Twin Cities Breast Cancer Three Day Walk.

The challenge was issued in July and at last count we were a dismal 23.

Come on gang we can do better than that.

A few days ago I answered about 20 Questions with this account. 🙁

I had Boxy and one of the others chasing me all over the site and I didn’t notice till a E-Mail hit the decks here. So I had to go back and edit them all. :_|

Anyway I think that now as very few people are giving Thumbs for answers I’m safe for the time being at least. Though the [b]Good Old Days[/b] when all you had to do was look to the upper right hand side of the screen made it so easy to see who you where logged in as. But when you log off and then come back several hours latter only to find that the User Account that you logged off as has changed it does make life a bit difficult. Particularly when the My Workspace doesn’t open and takes you directly to a 404 Page Not Found error. ?:|

But I do love the page that TR throws up explaining that you may have incorrectly typed in the URL when all you did was click on a Hyperlink. :^0

I venture to guess that most of us have known someone with some form of cancer. I have known several, friends, coworkers, students, who fought cancer. Some won, some lost.

I have a student who has lost the preceding three generations of men to breast cancer. He is frightened silly that it is only a matter of time for him, too.

Cancer devastates not only victims, but friends and family of victims.

I intend to keep bumping these threads until Tigger’s 3-day is finished. Next year, if I’m still around, I’m going to do the same thing all over again.

Because it’s important. Damned important.

all new hardware that you buy will come with XP drivers. Well the better stuff anyway. I don’t know about those nasty PC Chip type M’Boards as I try to avoid them at every opportunity as they are complete rubbish.

M’Boards like ASUS, ABit, Gigabyte and so on all come with XP Drivers all the Video Capture Cards come with XP Drivers as well as all the things like Printers.

Sorry but I will not be around much for a few days/weeks depending on how the cousin does after having his stomach removed. I’ll drop in on the Q Threads to wind down at the end of the day but I sort of have my hands full at the moment.

Then just to make my life so much easier [b]SWMBO[/b] broke her car today & I had to drop everything to go and rescue it. Apparently her car sitting on the side of the road with a broken distributer just isn’t acceptable. Pity that the parts that I just had to have are still sitting at the wholesalers waiting for me to pick them up. 😉

Well I didn’t want to do any work this weekend anyway. 😀

ASUS and AMD for me…

ASUS are fine though I do personally prefer Gigabyte as they have a 3 year warranty but that’s a personal thing I’ve used lots of ASUS Boards without any problems except on the AMD units where some Video Cards refuse to work but when you use the same Chip Set from a different Maker they do. This even happens with the same brand stuff with is annoying to say the least.

I once had a rash of ABit M’Boards and Video Cards that simply refused to work together though each worked perfectly well by itself.

I personally use Seagate HDD’s as they come with a 3 Year Warranty and from past experience they actually format up slightly bigger may not be an issue but I just like them like that.

I’ve also had a couple of Creative Sound Cards that do not allow some AMD Chip Sets to Boot but this has always been related to High End Audio fitted to the M’Boards I still have a Audigy card here that has never been used as it just refused to work with one of the M’Boards and that at the time was top of the range but the main reason that I got it was because it had a MIDI Port which have all but disappeared now.

But the Big One here is the Nvidia Video Boxy currently Nvidia seems to have a design problem with some of their Video Chip Sets and they are failing at an alarming rate. Might be an idea to look at another Chip Set Maker for Video at the moment till things are sorted out as Nvidia has supposedly set aside $200,000,00.00 to fix the mess that has happened but all the media is claiming that this will not be enough so I personally do not see how Nvidia will continue unless they get bought out by someone much bigger who can carry the loss and fix the problem. Or at least carry the loss till the problem just goes away.

But if you do use a Nvidia Chip Set Video Card make sure to set it to keep very cool well the GPU at least as this seems to be the main problem the GPU constantly runs hot and then starts to break down. So make sure that the Video card that you get has it’s own Fan and keep an eye on it as well as making sure that there is a lot of airflow thorough the case and Don’t over load the GPU.

Also if you ever see a Zig Zag effect on the monitor power down and check the function of the GPU’s Fan and check for dust blocking up the Heat Sink.

yesterday on the way home, someone kept swerving almost 1/4 – 1/3 in my lane (in front of me). I just wanted to pass the b!tch, but everytime I sped up, I had to brake again.

Finally coming up to the light she stayed in her lane. That is when I noticed she was texting in heavy traffic!!!
Light turns green, and I was able to pass by no issue, she didnt realize the light was green and that everyone in front and around her were moving.
I am glad that is the last I saw of the b!tch!!!

Was just laughign teh other night about how I woule walk to work through Vancouver’s Hastings street (years back) while wearing a pair of dress pants a silk tie and pastel pink shirt.

Hastings street is Vancouvers skid row, that’s where all teh crack dealers, junkies, winos etc live on teh sidewalk.

Most people will go out of their way to avoid even driving down East Hastings, but there’s no threat to anyone there. People can barely stand up and stagger to the next alley for a meal and a dump, yet alone attack anyone.

Yesm I was one of those, sexually confident guys, I wore pink shirts to biker parties if I went straight from work.

These discussions involving Tig’s campaign have been around for a few weeks now. When is/was the 3 day?

The last time I got involved with the pink ribbon avatar challenge it was for like a week or two. Just long enough for Tig to get a screenshot of the Top 100 with pink ribbons to take with her on the walk.

Plus she posted pics of the walk afterwards. I haven’t seen any post-walk discussion yet. So someone please enlighten me. 🙂 Have I missed it?

How goes the GIMP?

however there is good reason for it. The first package would not install properly, then the second place I got it didnt have the updates or extra packages…

Finally after about 20 min, it installed, and I found updates and extras for it. Got it all installed, and started it up 🙂

But, I do not see a ‘resize’ command, and I spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to move the text box (layer2). Then it kept giving me errors about exporting first due to invisible something or another. After choosing OK, it agian told me I had to export it due to layers — so I flattened the layers and saved it without issue
Posted it last night, but now I need new pics to play with. The ones that I started with last night need some work (stfu with red circle and a line through it).
I resized it on XP with no issue (used the ‘resize’ command), however the image was too small originally and it just blurs.
But since I dont know how to use the tools yet (and have avoided the manuals — yes, bad idea) it is going slowly…

I dont know, I just cant keep an interest in it. I have never really been a graphics person, so it isnt in my top priorities to spend the time learning every in and out of GIMP for features that I would easily forget about.

Couple. three hints.

To resize go to, “Image/Scale Image”. Break the chain if you want to change the image ratio.

Also, I just ignore those “error” messages. I’ve never had them screw up an image yet. Just make sure if you’re saving a multi-layer gif that you save it as an animation, don’t flatten it. You may get a transparency “error” message or “out of limits” message but as long as you save it as an animation you’ll be just fine.

Last, but best, hint: If you’re going to spend any time working on an image it pays to save everything to it’s own folder. The GIMP seems to hang if you save it to your “My Pictures” folder and it’s a real PITA! It eventually works right but you have to be patient.

Every time I tried to scale the image, it screwed it up, caused more blurs, and left the image whare it was AND moved it. Often cutting parts off (enlarging it and it cut parts out??)

I tried a text box, placed it, and it auto moved to a position I didnt want constantly. So after I got it positioned right I saved it and gave up for the night.

hmmm, mabe another go in a bit. If I tried right now, I might toss the NB across the room :0 (jk)

I forget which one is the best right now but you can choose to see what works best. Remember, scaling up will cause blurring most often. It’s always best to work with as high a resolution image as you can get to start with then scale down.

If you’re trying to make that “don’t” sign don’t forget to search Google\Images for good starting material.

There are an unlimited number of undo’s so if you screw up just undo. Hint: When moving text, for precision, you have to grab an actual text character not just the text box.

Another hint: Create a new image with a transparent background and create your text in that, leave it highlighted, copy and then when you paste it into another image it’ll be perfectly centered. I usually have at least six images open all at once just to work on one base/final image.

I got a little inspired (from your post) and did a google search, found a new ‘No Symbol’ and put it in the GIMP. This time, I seemed to get it right AND I had figured out that after scaling, and accepting it, then the image works better (no double image). I guess I was more tired than I though last night. It seemed ‘Easy’ today..

Anyway, here is my first animated GIMPed image 😀

Set whatever time you want for each layer. Put it in this format, (500ms). If you’ve saved it and reopened it it should have the default timing of (100ms) for each layer.

But figured it out. See, I have been playing around a bit (without the manual 😀 )

I flattened the 2 layers and put them in a file, then I re-added the STFU text and set the timing for 350 MS on the STFU text, and 1000ms on the full (no symbol + STFU text)anfter dragging the flattened file into the layer selection tool box (not sure how I opened it, but I did it a few times, so I’ll just need to remember next time 😀 .

Anyway, here is what I got (more what I wanted)

Ok, not perfect, but good enough for me.
Now I gotta figure out a new projact 😀

Burned a lot of wood and all of the yard waste down to ash. At one point the fire was so hot there were two columns of mini-vortexes, a few inches across, rising 20 feet and more in the smoke. I’ve never seen that before. Pretty odd.

A few years ago at dear camp, we had a blaze going. Snow on the ground, end of November, and the thermometer on the cabin 20 feet away said we had it up to 68F.

Our smoke tornadoes happened after throwing a few old, delaminated 4×8 sheets of 3/4″ plywood on the fire. Finally got rid of the ground hog magnets from behind the barn. Nothing but ash left today.

I often wonder if NORAD notices.

I mounted a small squirrel cage blower in a plastic milk crate so the fire gets enough oxygen to keep the flames going. I put a couple lengths of 4″ round duct-work on the end of it and move it around to anyplace that looks like it needs it. Works great. We’ll have flames all of the way ’til the end. It makes the fire hot enough to easily melt glass.

JBM bean blends (affordable) are permanently on my Christmas wish list. I’m easy to buy for. If I get a small bag of good coffee beans I’m quite happy. No flavored beans. I don’t know who started that stuff but if I want extra flavoring I’ll add it myself.

I get it about once a year, now.

Is an X-ray tech. She is now a clinical instructor but she was a mammography tech before that. I am well aware of the fact that men can get breast cancer. With all our technological advances and the fact that we have not yet found a cure just proves how complex a disease this is…

At least I’ll admit it. :0 Those passing out days are long gone. Whew. Don’t miss them either. Uh uh. Nope. No way. Not even a little bit.

I’ve got a great setup. From here I can see and control the 60″ big screen TV and view my 22″ pc monitor just by shifting my eyes. The monitor is larger by my perspective. Pretty cool. Now I want another one to set beside it.

We’ve three pc’s setup on a network in the living room. We’ve had as many as six but I’ve eliminated three of mine to make more room. I don’t really need a multi-pc setup even though I am craving a Mac-Pro. I manage to talk myself out of it everytime, so far. There’s that whole money thing too. 🙂

I’d take a picture of my setup for TROLOV but that’d mean I have to pick up a little. Maybe tomorrow.

Obviously people can change them, they just won’t. I don’t get it but then I guess it’s not my job to judge others, as much as I’d like to sometimes. I’ll pass on it this time.

I’m probably the one guy here who has changed their avatar the most often and I’m even letting mine be a simple pink ribbon for the duration. If all I can provide is that little bit of extra support for all of the effort Tigger is putting into this thing I’m pleased to do it. I’ll leave others to their own conscience.
