a week to regret
Lockedby jaqui · about 14 years, 8 months ago
Friday last week, a neighbor drops dead in the hallway outside my door.
Saturday, I get woken by Police, cause it wasn’t my neighbor, we have no idea who this woman was.
Then I find out that another neighbor died Tuesday, his body found Saturday. [ ripe doesn’t begin to describe the stench the heat caused ]Today, I’m told a senior citizen tenant is refusing his medication, so it looks like another deader before next weekend.
anyone want my life?

Just who have you upset recently?
Sounds like at the very least you should go and apologies to them if not actually beg for them to forgive you. 😉

shot and keeps missing. In that situation you have to develop a morbid sense of humour or go crazy. Take care friend, take good care.
Seriously though, I can sympathise with you as I’ve been there.
During the mid 1970s I was a member of Her Majesty’s NSW Constabulary and working from a station in one of the older working class areas – many houses originally built pre-gas and were later fitted with gas. Many of the very old residential houses had a lot of old people who’d been living there for decades. The winter that year was very bad. During the middle three weeks it was extremely cold. As the most junior person in the station I got the ‘key holder’ calls – person not seen for some days and the key holder needs to enter to check if they’re OK, but it’s done under police supervision – usually the officer opening the door and being first to enter. In a five week period I handled one or two on each shift, usually the person was dead, sometimes for some days – not nice at all. I had a real hard time eating meals for some weeks as the smell was very hard to get rid of – I lost enough weight to worry the shift supervisor and got shifted to traffic duty for a month.

Time to move or hire a body guard

Where I live, about thirty five miles south of Oakland California, The criminal element has been creaping south for the last fourty years and has reached my neighborhood. Random shootings, carjackings, robbery and general thugery has overtaken the surrounding area. So far nothing has happened on my street yet, it is a dead end with only one way in or out so that may put it out of the realm of an easy mark and a quick getaway. Farther north in Richmond there are nightly shootings and hopefully it will remain safe here for at least a couple more years before I can retire and get the hell out of California. I do protect myself and home with a guard dog outside and a guard kitty inside. My weapons are loaded and kept near each door. I have no young children in the home and each member is well versed in how and when to use them. May you be blessed in not encountering any further mishaps in your proximity.

In reply to Gun’s what?
Is a company who makes Wood Chips out of Forests.
They are attempting to build a Wood Chip Factory in Northern Tasmania and after buying the then Premier of Tasmania who cut all of the red tape for unimportant things like Environment Impact Studies are now running into problems because some others are no longer willing to just Trust Their Word.
So I have to agree Gun’s is a very big problem that need to be Cleaned out. 😉

Though if you believe Gun’s Broacher they can do no wrong pity that this isn’t backed up with Facts though. :0

I had a similar experience years back. I lost 4 neighbors over the span of a summer, and 3 within 10 days. So, I can empathize with the ‘awkwardness’ you’re probably feeling right about now.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Chicago_heat_wave
Overall, there were 700+ in Chicago that summer due to the excessive heat, with 500+ coming in one week, alone.
Despite well-neighbor checks, and the building doing a good job of making rounds to ensure the AC and fan systems were all working, people still didn’t make it.
In most of the cases (3 were confirmed by spouses), it was due to heart attacks brought on by over exertion. We had a lift in the building, not an elevator. You could usually make it up to the 4th floor by the time the lift made it to the 2nd. Despite the heat, many of my older neighbors still took the stairs.
Look after yourself, look after your loved ones, check in on your neighbors, and things will get better in time.

it’s tough at the top but someone has to do it. If you didn’t live there it would only happen to someone else. Keep your chin up.

I’ve had the misfortune of seeing and smelling that. It stays with you. Particularly the eyes and the smell. I hate it for you and wish you better luck.
But look at it this way, while this week was rough…you did wake up this morning above dirt.
