Access denied to C drive

By dinexdashed ·
I recently re-installed my windows XP home edition and now I cannot access my C drive or my external drive.

when i right click and click open, it says access denied:

when i double-click, it gives me this:

i have tried numerous things to fix this, including putting it into safe mode and making sure the permissions are correct. i do not have the 'use simple file sharing' in my folder options AT ALL, i am the only person who uses the computer (thus i am the admin).

also, i can get into both programs by clicking explore.

i hope this is enough information. i've never had this problem in 4 years until i decide to wipe/re-install and NOW it gives me problems.

thanks for the help!

Logon as administrator.
Right click the drive and choose Properties.
Click the Security Tab.
Click the Advanced Button.
Click the Owner Tab.
Click on the Administrators Group (If your User is an administrator).
Be sure to check the Box that reads; Replace owner on subcontainers .....

i ran a bunch of virus programs (ad-aware, malwarebytes, spybot, and my own isp provided virus program). i caught a couple of things, of which i'm not sure any are the culprit. i then re-installed windows from scratch (deleting partition, etc.) and now everything is working smoothly with no problems.
