Acer Aspire 5100 stuck in boot loop.

I’ve got a problem with my Acer Aspire 5100. It has been fine for years but suddenly developed a problem where it won’t boot at all. It displays the POST splash screen, the screen goes dark then the splash screen screen returns – displaying the “press f2 to enter setup” message. In BIOS it looks fine, the hard disk is displayed and all looks well. It does the same with a different hard disk.If I use a linux bootable CD I can gain access and copy files from the HDD to a USB stick and vice versa, all diagnostics say that all is well but the problem remains. Has anyone seen this before and solved it?

In reply to Acer Aspire 5100 stuck in boot loop.

Try reposting this in the ‘Q&A’ forum. The ‘Discussion’ forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The ‘Water Cooler’ is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to ‘Q&A’ here:

      http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/questions/post?tag=mantle_skin;content

There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you’ll find more of those members in ‘Q&A’ than in ‘Discussions’ or ‘Water Cooler’.

Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a ‘+’ does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won’t need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as “The Answer”. .

Here it very much sounds like a Windows Problem where the Windows Install has been corrupted If you can boot off a Boot Disc/Live Linux and have the unit go to whatever it was you are using then it’s defiantly Windows Related.

If you have all your Data off the Device you can try using the Acer Recovery method and rebuild the system to Factory Fresh but you’ll loose any installed Programs that you have loaded.
