Add/remame computer accounts in a given OU

By And_the_beat_goes_on ·
Hi, I am new to AD and need to know how to authorize a group to be able to add and rename accounts (and join the domain) in a given ou. Any help would be appreciated.

there must be something I am not doing right as I had already tried that before posting, if you have specifics that I should be selecting that would be welcome.

It is not totally clear from your initital post if you want the group to be able to add computers or users.
right click on the users OU. Select delegate control. Add the group you're given the permissions, select "delegate common tasks". Select all you want them to be able to do.
right click on your computers OU, Select delegate control, Create custom task, and keep " This folder, existing ....." selected. Now assign the change permissions

out of office this week, I was referring to computers. I did try the right click on Computer OU, selected delegate control, I recall selecting allow to authenticate but cannot recall what else I selected. In any event, I was missing something as it did not work. I will give a closer look next week when I am back in, thank you very much

Other settings

Create a GPO that applies to the OU and modify the following setting. Computer settings > windows settings > security settings > user rights assignment > Allowed to join computers to the domain. Add the appropriate users to this policy.

Also you would need to change your default container for computer accounts to go to. Use for those instructions.

I hope this helps you.
