Adding RAM-Problems

By holmesmc ·
Recently I added some RAM to two machines for a business in town, and the machines aren't seeing the new sticks in slots two or three. They both are PII 400's with similar motherboards but different BIOS on them. It's not a compatibility issue because I swapped in the original sticks in one computer while trying the two new sticks in the other and both machines are only seeing the first slot. I also tryed slots 1&3 as well to no avail. What could be wrong with these two machines? They both havewin98 on them however this shouldn't make a difference. Usually it's "plug-n-go". But this one has me and several others stumpted! HELP.

Adding RAM-Problems

Make sure theat they are the same kind of ram and the same size ram. Also if the motherboard allows for different kinds of ram (simms & DIMMS on the same board), if you have a full bank of one, it will cause some of the other to be ignored

There is only one bank of three slots for the ram. The two new sticks are the same kind. And the two old sticks are the same but from a different manufacturer than the new. It's all PC100 and same speed. 60ns. Thanks for the ideas.

Is it possible that your are putting in more memory than the mobo's will allow? You might try checking the mobo's manufactures website for any bios updates or FAQ's.
