Administrative and HDD password

By gcampbel ·
I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 2500 from a neighbor and he said that he couldn't remember his administrative and HDD password (sounds like a pile of B.S. to me. I bought it anyway because I need a laptop. I thought that I could get aroung it by removing the CMOS battery but I could not find it. Can anyone help me with this problem? (please)

this would be a good time to reformat and reinstall.
Hopefully you have a licensed copy of XP.
If not, you will need to purchase one.

I wish I had better news for you, but even though resetting the CMOS password by removing the battery might work... good luck in getting to it. That would require dismantling with the very least being removing the keyboard. But if you insist on trying, obtain a service manual or better yet, take it to a trained technician.

Another option would be to Google for 'password changer.'

Good Luck.

dell hdd passwords

HDD password on dells are based on the hard drive, even moving the HDD to another laptop it would not be accessible.

Replacing the HDD would fix it, or maybe reformatting it on a non-DELL laptop (never tried that though). You may need a tool to wipe it more thoroughly then a regular format, but I've never tried doing this...
