    by mestarspet ·

When using the HDMI cable to watch an Internet video on the TV, I have to restart my laptop to get any audio. The TV volume is unmuted and at 100%. —-Sometimes I get audio when I mute and unmute the laptop.

So when they are used the Default Sound Device gets deactivated. The normal way to restart the default Sound Device is to restart the system which appears to be what you are doing here.

This behavior is perfectly normal and what I would expect to be happening.

However depending on your OS you may be able to enter the Control Panel if you are running some form of Windows and change the default Sound Device back to whatever comes in your NB, this is generally some form of Realtech Device. To do this in XP open the Control Panel, switch it to Classic View then left click on the Sound and Audio Devices.

When the next window opens left click on the Audio Tab and check what is displayed in the Top Box. Using the Drop Down Arrow on the right hand side open the Drop Down Menu and change the Sound Device back to your sound device.
