    AWARD BIOS

    Locked

    by comforu ·

I have a system that won’t boot. As soon as power is applied to the system, the following is displayed on the monitor “AWARD Bootblock BIOS
    BIOS ROM Checksum Error”
I get no option to enter into the BIOS setup prcedures.

I have never seen this type of message before in all my years working with PCs.

Can someone give me some ideas.

    Thanks much.

It sounds like cmos got fried, do you think it could have been victimized by a power surge or a power drop? Try checking the Award web page for further info. It sounds like the motherboard is probably shot.

A bios rom checksum error does indicate that the bios code is corrupt. You may be able to flash it back to life though. Check with your motherboard manufacturer.

Couldn’t tell you – I got the exact same error on a PC a few months ago. Personally, I think it was a virus that killed my BIOS. Luckily, the customer’s mobo was under warranty, so I just returned it and got a new one – problem solved. I tried flashing the BIOS, resetting CMOS, etc. – nothing would work.

you need to get a new bios chip or unless you can down load a bios flash program and fix the check sum error if you cant do that then the only way to fix this type of problem is a new chip

You could try disconnecting your cmos battery
for a while.I have had a corrupted cmos once
and that cured the problem. You can then re-flash your cmos.

      Good luck

This is good only if the BIOS chip is in a plug-in socket. Depending on how old this sysytem is and how much heat and vibration it has experienced, the problem could be that the BIOS chip is loose and one or more pins isn’t making good contact. Ifthe BIOS chip is a plug-in, take care to ground yourself, turn off power and gently press the chip into its socket at the middle and both ends. If you feel it click into a new position it was loose.
