AWARD BIOS

By comforu ·
I have a system that won't boot. As soon as power is applied to the system, the following is displayed on the monitor "AWARD Bootblock BIOS
BIOS ROM Checksum Error"
I get no option to enter into the BIOS setup prcedures.

I have never seen this type of message before in all my years working with PCs.

Can someone give me some ideas.

Thanks much.

This is good only if the BIOS chip is in a plug-in socket. Depending on how old this sysytem is and how much heat and vibration it has experienced, the problem could be that the BIOS chip is loose and one or more pins isn't making good contact. Ifthe BIOS chip is a plug-in, take care to ground yourself, turn off power and gently press the chip into its socket at the middle and both ends. If you feel it click into a new position it was loose.
