Bob Denver, Gilligan, dies at age 70

    Locked

    by dmambo ·

Bob Denver died today. Now I know this will sound kind of stupid, but I’m feeling a little sad about it. I spent many hours as a kid watching Gilligan’s Island, and my friends and I started several projects in my garage based on some of the machines dreamed up by the Professor. We even had an old bike that we used to fill in for the bamboo one that Gilligan used to power everthing.

Do you folks in AUS and GBR know about Gilligan and his band of castaways?

Ah well, there are a lot more serious things to be concerned with. Thanks for listening.

BTW – I was always a “Mary Ann” guy!

      I loved that show too…

I bet Jaqui will be really sad…Bob Denver was a celeb proponent of firing up a doob.

      RIP, Gilligan.

What were they growing on that island?? Were they stranded in Jamaica?

I hadn’t heard that he was pro-smoke. Amazing! Gives a whole new meaning to “headhunters”. 🙂

Bob Denver and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) have both had encounters with the law about pot. And, Denver has expressed in interviews that he doesn’t see a big deal with smoking it.

If I had been a teen in the ’60s, I’d have been thin as a stick, hair down to my butt, bell-bottoms and tie-dye and beads…and butt-naked at Woodstock smokin more doobs than Bob Dylan and rolling around in the mud.

But…nowadays, it doesn’t fit…and after my 4 times, it wasn’t that great…so, I gave it up to have a decent paying career and so that I don’t have to worry about my kids having 3 eyes or 4 arms.

All that chemical stuff worries me…especially prescription meds. They announced this morning…even the dye in cartoons on baby diapers can cause an increase of rashes on some infants.

anyways…I stay away from anything but caffeine and aspartame…and I even moderate the intake of those.

and, as with all the artificial sweeteners, the cause of migranes for me.
can’t touch the artificial sweeteners, or any product that contains them.

I live on caffeine and nicotine. not in moderation.
4, 10 cup pots of coffee a day minimum.
( still manage to sleep great )

          Caffeine…

          by jck ·

In reply to Coffee – primo antioxidant source

Dude…I keep a 24 oz cup on my desk that I fill a minimum of 2 times per day with coffee, plus I usually stop in the morning and get a 24 oz on the way to work…so, I have at a minimum 3/4 of a gallon just in coffee a day.

I have to stop by 3pm, though or I don’t get to bed til after 11pm.

          Damn old age… 🙁

I didnt see him dying anytime soon, but so is life. Not a bad run though. I guess the New Gilligan Island show did him in. My brother used to tell me stories about how much of a beatnik he was. It was so hard to imagine, Gilligan the pot smoking, acid dropping, anti conformist. As far as I could tell he was a decent person, not an arrogant attention starved actor. He made me laugh many times, he will be missed.

I watched the hell out of that chessy show even the stupid movies. I always laughed over the celebrity shipwrecking and abandonment. I guess it was Hollywood’s joke on self centeredness. The best written one was the mind reading sunflower seeds.

As for me I would have taken any of the chicas. I even would angle for Mrs. Howell. Her nickname was “Lovie”. Makes you wonder what kind of a freak she was? She also had lots of money for the sugar momma angle. LOL. In short Ginger for the trophy/one night stand, Mary Ann for marrige/kids, Lovie for standard of living.

I guess my favorite episode of Gilligan (though it is hard to choose) was where he was convinced that he was a psycho killer and dreams he is in a British court being tried as Dr. Jekyll.

I thought of the Gilligan character as a friend too. I thought Bob was one of the best physical comedians of his time. I never got to see him in person, but I heard that he was very cool and very friendly at the GI fan events. I hope he is in a better place. And count me firmly in the Ginger column.

In reply to We always play nicely

that I am wrong 2.7% of the time? That is outragious to think I would/could be wrong that often!

And I still don’t get all the Rush comments towards me? I have stated repeatedly that I do not listen to Rush. ?:| Can’t get ANY AM stations in when I am in my office, and can’t even get a cell phone connection. It is music CD’s all day long, currently Vinnie Moore, and just got done with Stabbing Westward. And no, I don’t take a lunch so I don’t hear him in the car either.

Is this suppose to discredit me by you having an issue of what YOU are hearing him say?

I recognise him to be as credible as MoveOn.org or Michel Moore. Which is to say, I don’t find him credible. And Moveon and moore are both disgraces , which is a good thing because they discredit everything they touch hurting the very people they are trying to help. Hope they both stay around!

Rush doesn’t hurt the Republicans like they do the Dems because the only people that have issues with him are Dems, and the Republicans that care just don’t listen.

Rush Limbaugh used to tout that he was accurate 97.3% of the time (or something like that).

When you pipe up how you’re right all the time, you just remind me of that and his sensationalist Republican rhetoric he spews so that he can feel secure in knowing he’s got brownie points with their party.

My gosh, Gilligan croaked only 24 hours ago and this discussion is already filled with an outpouring of passion, grief and heartfelt emotion for one of the greatest actors of all time (cough!). I can’t wait to see how everyone reacts when a really famous person keels over. Uh…not that I am anxiously awaiting the death of a significant person, mind you. Speaking of that, I don’t recall seeing any discussion on Chief Justice William Rehnquist’s passing. Are you guys telling me that Maynard G. Krebs and Gilligan are more important to you than the Chief Justice of the highest court in the U.S. of A? :/
