Bringing Linux into a MS marriage (Dear Abbey: )

By Shellbot ·
My husband made a very shocking statement over the weekend.

He has said he is going to install Linux on his laptop. He is planning to do it on a virtual machine, so in his eyes, its ok..

He says its for learning purposes, as most of the stuff at his new job runs on Linux... but how long before its not just "learning" anymore?? How long before he starts using it just for fun..??

I am a MS purist...I just cannot believe Linux will be taking up resisedence in my house..

How am I susposed to handle this??
What am I going to do??

I ran samba at home very successfully for backups

by Forum Surfer In reply to enjoy interoperability

It ran so well I forgot to turn it off for over a year. Didn't notice the box was dead until my backup jobs were crashing. Seems I set the box to turn on at the correct time on friday evenings yet I didn't have it shutting down after the job was done. The old dell dimension celeron box it was on didn't like 24/7 duty in the garage, as I also used it for surfing car related problems.

C'mon, Shell- take a walk on the wild side!

by Tig2 In reply to Bringing Linux into a MS ...

It will be much easier to continue to find work if you open
your heart and mind to other OS options. I strongly believe
that OS agnostic is the best way to go.

But then, what do you expect from someone posting from a
Mac?

what would we expect?

to be able to comprehend the post -- however since it is MAC Speak, we cannot understand what you are saying or even implying.

What's in YOUR operating system?

by Tig2 In reply to what would we expect?

I'll just bet that there is a Window in your world even though
you pretend to be Tux's friend. You lead a double life and I
know it!

:0 Oh No!!! Its now known to all

wait, everyone already knew ~whew~ I thought I would have to hide out for a bit or something.

Yes, I am sadly forced to use more than 1 version of Windows. And my main home system is XP. But at least I aint on a MAC

At least I

Don't have to reboot my system every time I turn around. It
is not uncommon to leave it running 24x7. It's UNIX. It's
happy that way.

I NEVER get BSOD errors...

but Tigger

by Jaqui In reply to At least I

you could get the same with a any PC flavour, running LINUX.

no need to spend extra on the Apple Mac PC hardware.

Actually Jaq

by Tig2 In reply to but Tigger

After the HP went TU after ten months I decided that better
hardware is better hardware. And besides, I LIKE OS X.

I've had this for a year now and I don't see myself going back
to a PC. I have a couple and you're absolutely correct- they
can all run LINUX.

Nice waste of energy there

by The 'G-Man.' In reply to At least I

it would save you cash to turn it off.
