    Browser Shutdown

    Locked

    by jsexton9 ·

I have been picking up a “trojan-downloader-2pursuit” message when scanning with Spy Sweeper. I delete the culprit each time, and then it reappears on the next scan. I have tried going to websites where help might be available–Spy Sweeper, various trojan removers, anti-virus sites–and my browser closes down. Any clues?

      1) Turn off System Restore

      2) Boot your PC into Safe Mode before doing the scan

I turned off System Restore a while back–it never has worked when I needed it, so I figured why bother? The scan in Safe Mode turned up the same trojan–but Spy Sweeper never really removes it; and I think it has already done its dirty work and is preventing my cleaning the system.

I have been in touch with support at Webroot and they have emailed me two attachments: one to run a diagnostic and upload it to them, the second to do a removal and upload the results to them. Both processes look like they did what they were supposed to do, but now Spy Sweeper won’t work at all: it freezes up every time I start it, causing the computer to lock up and requiring a manual reboot.

My “Hijack This” still won’t work, but I have been able to access some malware/spyware/removal (etc.) sites I’ve Googled. A couple of days ago, my browser would close as soon as the Google results page came up.

I probably won’t hear from Webroot now until at least Monday: their support department leaves a great deal to be desired.

I’ve had some pretty nasty Trojan viruses, but after performing a scan in safe mode with my favorite Antivirus program, and repeating with Lavasoft’s Ad-aware free removal application (lavasoft.com), the next stop is Symantec.com. They have an extensive library of free removal tools. Just perform a search on their site for your using the name of the virus. Hope this helps.
