Building My First PC

By Casemaker ·
Hi,
I am putting together my first Pc. I got a PIII 800 and an IntelD815EEA motherboard from Chips and tips. I followed all instructions and when I go to power it on, nothing. I took the board out again and checked underneath. I took out the i/o shield that came with the Antec case and put in the one that came with the board. I have checked all the basic power. surge strip and outlet but nothing.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

This may be too simple, but make sure you are putting the "Power" switch connector from the case front between pins 6 and 8 on the J8C3 Front Panel Connector of the motherboard. This is assuming that no activity has been seen (fans, led's, hard drive or CD drive spinning).

Hi,
I am starting to think Intel shipped a dead board. Does anyone know how to test a dead board?

Just a stab in the dark, but have you tried a different power cordmake sure that the one you're using will power up a different computer or your monitor, if it fits. Also double check the outlet that your using or try one on a different circuit, don't assume that because one outlet in a fixture works they both do. If using a power strip do other appliances work off of it? Just a few thoughts.

If you've gone through three different power supplies, then there are two options left - bad board, bad chip. Replace the board - that is, assuming you have the board installed correctly - that is, all the screws in the correct spot, brass fittingsand/or mylar washers if included, etc.

Thank you,
In my humble opinion and acording to all manuals and case instructions as well as some info off of a tech site I have the board installed correctly.

The D815EEA board has diagnostic LED's on the back panel, Are you getting any lights from this? Also are you using more thank one piece of RAM? The 815 motherboard will not come on at all if you use 2 pieces of ram with chips on both sides. Only single sided can be used when using more than one stick. This is straight from Intel tech support as we had this come up in one of our builds.
