Buyouts by major manufacturers, what are you doing?

By The Weekly Geek ·
Tags: Off Topic
LG Electronics bought SMC (switches)
Dell bought SonicWall
Cisco bought Meraki
Intel is going to quit making motherboards
I am sure there are many others.

What are you doing? Are you looking for alternatives?
Are you still buying those devices?

I don't like it when people feel a need to offer up their qualifications or role in order to justify their comments.
In a case where credibility is important, such as offering technical support, it's okay to say, "I've worked with that OS for many years, as a result I've learned that...."

To say "Wizard57M

As a signature to a post where you know your avatar displays the same info is just borderline narcissistic.

I don't sign off all my emails with "Strategic Business Alliance Manager" or "Director of Business Management", in fact I don't even use initials in my signature to tout qualifications.
I often sign off with first name, I build close relationships, and only use both names when formal.

There is a reason why I included my "signature",

as at the time I was also answering questions in Q&A, and as most of us that have been around a while know, no avatars or designations will show up in Q&A posts. If my adding that little bit of extra offended you, tough luck. By the way, I don't include my professional degrees, licenses or other initials behind my name, but if you want, I could bore you with them.

Moderator, please read the question before asking if it was a question

by The Weekly Geek In reply to Was there a point to this ...

Yes, What was my question? I believe it should have been clear. With the buyouts ( and yes, I know they occur I was probably in IT before you were born), What are you (the Tech Republic Community) doing? Simple straight forward question.
For those who did not get past ... I won't go there.
To make it simple for some people.
Will you still but the specified in the question above products?
Will you search for new providers/manufacturers?

Things are a lot looser here than over in the primary 'Discussions' forum. Mud is flung, attitudes are copped, and off-topic conversations are not only normal but expected.

With that said, I'll tackle your question. If I can still buy the same product, I'll continue to buy it. I don't care what the company name is -IF- the product and price are the same. If it's not available, then I guess I don't have any choice about looking for someone else. I handle non-tech purchases the same way.

I think you're catching flack because everyone is wondering why you are asking a question with such an obvious answer. Changes in corporate ownership ownership alone don't play into our purchasing decisions.
