Call of Duty Won't Start in Windows 98SE

By rovoco ·
Game loads, displays splash screen, but won't start up after selecting single player. Ran fine several months ago on the same PC. CD spins up OK, but screen remains blank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember 1996 to 2000 was the quicktime era. I am unsure what was used from 2000 to 2004, but after 2004 and still now is the bink era. What year is COD? If its in the quicktime era, try reinstalling Quicktime (Usually version 3-5)

Have you tried to contact game creator for support,a number of things come to mind, video drive possibly needs updating, make sure the disc is clean, check the refresh rate.
You may want to take a screen shot of Diag and post it.

Not much help on the Activision site. I have checked it carefully. Have tried ATI Radeon 8500 refresh rates of 60Hz, 72Hz and 85Hz with no luck. Game CD works fine in a Win XP machine. Thanks to everyone for their help. I am overwhelmed by the response!
