Can i hook 2 Monitors to my computer?

    Locked

    by arfiestarkendorf ·

I have an Asus M2NPV-VM mobo with onboard video as well as an ATI x1300 All-In-Wonder Video Card. I would like to hook 2 monitors up and am wondering if i could use my onboard video and the ATI card or if i would need to get another card.
Another thought: My All-In-Wonder has a DVI output and then there is an adapter for VGA output. Could I get a DVI to VGA adapter to run both monitors off of the ATI card?

FWIW: The card will currently support dual output with an AV out and a VGA output if this helps

Your ATI All-In-Wonder card is dual monitor capable. At least from what I can tell. You may want to check with ATI or your User Guide to be sure.

All you need to do is connect a second monitor to the other video output using a DVI connector or a DVI-to-VGA adapter. The adapters are easy to find and inexpensive. I’ve gotten several through http://www.buy.com but you can usually get one at your local computer store.

I have used ATI All-In-Wonder cards for many years and have always had two monitors hooked to them.

After you connect the 2nd monitor, you will need to go into Display Properties and turn it on. Here are the steps:
Right click an empty spot on the Desktop, select Properties, click on the Settings tab, click on the 2 monitor, put a check in front of ‘Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor, adjust the resolution and color settings and click Apply & OK.

That about all there is to it.

Let me know if you need any further assistance by posting to this thread.

BTW… trying to use the on-board video at the same time as an add-on card will not work! In order to use two monitors to extend your desktop, you need a dual-monitor capable video card.

I was hoping to get it working without buying an adapter, but they are pretty inexpensive, so i will just get one. I was hoping to be able to use the on board video along with my all-in-wonder, but that sounds like it is not possible. I have used a dual monitor setup before, and i know that my ATI card is capable of dual monitors with an extended desktop because i can get it to work with analog video and VGA out, but both of my monitors are VGA and do not have DVI ports.

Are there different in pin outs for DVI outputs? I am not familiar with DVI.

This is all it will take:
          http://tinyurl.com/9q2oy
          Just $3.

I’m not sure I fully understand your question.
There is only one type of DVI video connector pin config.

          I’m glad I could help.
