Can you use a 3.5" hd enclosure with a 2.5" hd?

The title says it all. Can you use a 3.5" hd enclosure with a 2.5" hd? Will it rattle around or does it just not work at all? You can always stuff some foam or something inside with the drive to keep it stable right?

That would work....

... because it is DESIGNED for a 2.5" drive. However, as previously stated, an enclosure which doesn't cool the drive will shorten the life of the drive, possibly causing loss of data if it's not backed up by another means.

Besides that, your original question was about using a 3.5" enclosure for a 2.5" drive. Are you now changing the question?

well....

Not really. I just wanted to know if a 2.5" drive would work with a 3.5" enclosure. Nothing else needed. If that's the case I'll get that 3.5" enclosure that I saw.

... as previously stated numerous times, NO it won't work without something else needed unless it's specifically designed to accommodate both the 3.5" AND the 2.5" drives.
