Canadian Beer takes a steep dive!

By Oz_Media ·
Well now I've seen it all.
Molson Breweries has released Molson Kick
Labatts has released Labatts Shok

Both are small volume, high alcohol beers with that added KICK or SHOK brought on by the use of the guarana shrub, which is CAFFEINE!

Caffeine and beer, Molson has even started making an aluminum BOTTLE (eeeeew) for the trendy appearance of Kick.

MADD is going berserk over the idea. I instantly saw this as a beer targeted at the young IT crowd (caffeine is the closer there) but neither of these beers is SUPPOSED to actually have much of a caffeine effect yet is said to taste sweet for a beer.

So not only have the two shoddiest beer brewers actually bastardized yet another beer, they have destroyed al hope for making a real beer by incorporating an ALUMINUM BOTTLE (soon to be released, currently in glass)!

Personally as a beer drinker myself, cans make beer taste ghastly, sorry for the Coors Light junkies who think cans are the way to go, but that's not really beer.

MADD's lawyer has gone ballistic over the idea of promoting a beer that keeps kids awake and alert to THINK they can drive, which few can on the best of days.

Pretty soon these companies are going to align themselves with the beer companies in the US and start producing pee water in cans that seem to be bottles. When will it all end? When will people finally stand up and say enough's enough.

If you?re too young to enjoy a real brew or haven't developed the taste buds needed to enjoy a decent stout or lager, then go buy a Mountain Dew or a Red Bull and consider yourself a geek. nothing wrong with that, but for the beer makers to target THAT market is just wrong in itself.

Leave the damn beer the way it is supposed to be!

Today I am actually embarrassed to be living in Canada, screw the Liberal issues, they have dropped so much now that if it goes to vote again, they don't have a hope in **** (much as what SHOULD have happened with Bush's second term) but the beer issue is just too much for this guy to handle!

Sick demented losers!

It seems that EVERYONE likes GUinness these days.

I see a couple of reasons.

1) Since it was finally brought out here in volume, people have realized what REAL beer actually does taste like.

2) Since the marketing efforts have hit hard, it's become very trendy to drink Guinness.

I remember a time where you'd mention guinness to a North American ad either get a puzzled look or was told how gross and disgusting it was (obviously leaving mroe for me).

SO what's with everyone jumping on the Guinness bandwagon? I am not against it,it's just that until very recently it was viewed as disgusting crap from Ireland, actually most people thought Britain.

But it IS nice to see so many fellow peers here that have aquired a taste for Guinness, I suppose a pub night is looking better all the time!

I'm not a newcomer, per se

I've been drinkin Guinness for about 5 years. And remember, Oz...not everyone's as old as you (or lucky enough to have discovered Guinness that long ago either)

And yes, I've heard everyone going "Oh...that's too strong" or "That tastes bad."

BTW, the Guinness ad campaign in North America is nowhere to be found in Ireland.

I think the Irish would get a kick out of it. Too bad Diageo is being politically-correct.

How old do you really think I am?!?

I'm a puppy dog here. Considering a good portion of the regulars here date back to the Bronze Age, I'm just a kid at 36.

Now f you actually met me and spent time hanging out with me you would soon see a 16 year old trapped in a 36 year ol dbody, I absultely despise AGE and thrive on the fact that I have successfully harnessed the Peter Pan syndrome. :)

You've always struck me as the "dirty old man" type... but you're only 5 years older than me, and 4 years YOUNGER than my hubby... weird.

I cound out my girlfriend was pregnant two weeks before my 17th Birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

But we hung in, had a kid and did the best we could, which now that I see him makes me realiize I didn't do TOO bad at all.

It was either that or disappear like a loser and let her deal with it herself. We got married VERY young and then divorced as we grew a bit older and realized we had nothing in common anymore.

I was always taught to take life's punches and be a man, too many BOYS run away screaming when they find out their equipment works for things other than a good lay.
