cannot connect to secure web sites

By ehughbanks ·
I am running win98, internet explorer5.01sp1,
sometime in the last week I now cannot connect to websites that say I am entering a secure connection,I tried changing my ie security settings to low but this did no good, I had the settings very restrictive, I have 2 other pcs on my home network and they can access the sites fine, any ideas where I should start to troubleshoot or what is wrong? I am sure it is something stupid I did but I need help....
thanks

Did you try this?

Internet Explorer, Tools menu, Internet Options.
Click Seurity tab.
Click Custom Level
Scroll down to User Authentication, Logon.
Click Prompt for User Name and Password

It seems that many have tried and an answer is still elusive.....

Try upgrading to IE 5.5....

I'd be worth a try....

Good Luck...

What stikes me is : these 2 work, this one doesn't, so what's the difference? Are all 3 machines on 98 and the same version of IE?
If possible, I'd compare the settings on one that works with the settings on the one that doesn't. Simplistic: yes. Would it work? What have you got to loose.....?

One more possible solution to try. Microsoft has a patch for this particular problem. You can find and read about it here:
