Can't access Google

By jspaz ·
I am having a problem connecting to google.com. IE just stalls. I can access all other web sites (so far). I did a workaround by finding an alternate IP address for Google and putting it in the hosts file. My concern is that I may have problems with other sites. I have run Adaware and Spybot and done a number of virus scans. Any advice would be appreciated.

As you know, Google site is operable and I have not had any problems connecting to it recently (it's my home page).

I would supspect a problem with your ISP's DNS servers. Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Sites also run scripts when you log onto them. Make sure that the scripts error icon doesn't show up when you are trying to log onto google.com. If it does check to make sure that any processes such as flash or similar are still working.

I suggest making sure that IE is updated to prevent scripting errors.

Note that this is unlikely, but it happened to me just yesterday

Try getting Internet Explorer updated online from Microsoft site. Its possible that your IE files needs to be corrected.

Hi,

Since you are able to open other sites but not Google, I'll assume that something is wrongly configured on your IE. Google home page is a simple html page.

Check your IE to see if google.com is not in the restricted sites zone. Also check if the url is not blocked through some other program/firewall.

Most certainly, this is the case as you are able to view all other sites without problems.
You did not mention whether your PC is on a LAN with firewall/routing etc. or you connect to the 'net directly.

Good Luck

I had this today, I tried everything, I managed to get it to give results but they were not real.

You need to get a copy of a file called wininet.dll its in c:\windows\system32 from a good working pc, running the same or a previous version of XP to the one you are, delete your file, if it wont delete, rename the existing one to something like wininet.dll.deleteme then reboot. put the new file in place of the one we just renamed and you should now be able to delete the wininet.dll.deleteme file. restart again and all should be ok. worked for me.
