Can't login with graphical on SCO Unix

By jdclyde ·
Running SCO OpenServer 5.0.6j

Switch to the F2 console to login on the grapical interface.

Type in user name and password.

Screen goes blank, then comes right back with same login screen with a small note under the password line "Please try again".

Does the same with root or as a user account.

Switched over to other consoles and login just fine.

Need this going as my coworker who "manages" user accounts is lost at a propmt.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

graphical login comes up on F2, but can't login. It acts like an improper password or username was used.

The graphical will NOT start at all on any of the other consoles. Screen goes blank, then comes right back to the prompt. No error messages.

Just got in for the day, so will start going over the log files and post what I find.

Hold CTRL and ALT, and press F1 (or any other function key if F1 is where you started). Release those keys, and press CTRL-U and then CTRL-J. Login, taking it on faith that the "Password" prompt displayed even though you can't see it. It wouldn't hurt to count to three after typing "root" just to give it time to come up. Press enter a few times, and then carefully type

/etc/clean_screen
If that doesn't work, try

/etc/clean_screen -g
If you were already logged in on tty01, then just a couple of Enters followed by "/etc/clean_screen" should do it.

While I am not quite sure this is addressing the same issue, I will not knock it until I try it.

Pulled off onto other projects for now, but will try this when I can come back to it.

closing posting for now and will repost when I can work on this again.
