Can’t logon Windows XP Home Edition!

    Locked

    by deitis ·

When trying to logon, I click my icon, it starts loading, the desktop flashes for a second then logs off. I tried fixing the boot.ini, chkdsk and others fixes but they don’t work. If I reinstall a windows xp home edition(full version or SP1 or SP2)will it erase all apps and files or upgrade and drag them to new install?

      Hi…
Did you do your window update frequently using the window update function in microsoft products?

I encountered this problem before after i do the window update by selecting it to update automatically.

First i try to boot the machine and enter the boot option menu to select the boot from previous known good configuration. If thats fail then will try the window repair function using the window setup CD.Use the first repair option instead of the second one.

Repair window wont failed your other application or software.

So next time i will always choose the window update to notify me if there is any update available. Althougt this is not always happen but choosing the right update for your computer only is the best solution.

      Try a Restore

      Other than Kevin’s ideas…
If you can get to Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key repeatedly while the system boots, my recommendation is to perform an XP System Restore to a date prior to when the situation started occuring.
