Consider SSH

For management of remote Servers and desktops i use a ssh tunnel trought a Linux Firewall. In the administrative PC i use Putty with TCP forwarding and the RDP and VNC protocols are forwarded from the firewall to the hosts. Sample.
PC ->FW->Server or PC.
