CISCO Question HELP Me PLEASE>>>
Lockedby jcho · about 22 years, 12 months ago
Hi, I’ve recently purchased CISCO 2505 router from Ebay. I’ve received the router today and found out the sender doesn’t know the secret password. How do I reset the configuration or just simply change the password. When I try to console in it gives me a prompt that looks like WCFMC> It asks for the password if I try to enter a command.

Sometimes a default pass may still exist such as “Cisco”.

I tried the links listed above and could not get the document they are talking about. I found the reference, which I confirmed.
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/827/827swcfg/trble.htm#xtocid360011
This works because I have had to do this atleast once.

Sorry, for some reason my link failed to work also. Go to http://www.cisco.com -> in the search field at the top of the screen, enter the followin text: ENABLE PASSWORD RESET. The first item listed in the search results was titled troubleshooting. This is the reference.

Cisco 2500 Series Router Password Recovery Procedure
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/474/pswdrec_2500.htmlAttach PC with hyper-terminal to router console port

Press Break on terminal keyboard w/in 60 sec. of power-up to put router in ROMMON
Type o at the > prompt
Record the value of the config register (usually 0x2102, or 0x102)
Example:
>o
Configuration register = 0x2102 at last boot
Bit# Configuration register option settings:
15 Diagnostic mode disabled
…Type o/r 0x2142 at the > prompt
Type i at the > prompt
Type no after each setup question
Type enable at the Router> prompt. You’ll see the Router# prompt

Type wr term or show running
The show running and wr term commands show the configuration of the router

The prompt is now hostname#
Type write mem or copy running startup to commit the changes

rjtaylor has given you the book answer, and it is correct, one gotcha to look out for:
Where the book says:
“Attach PC with hyper-terminal to router console port
Settings:
9600 baud
No parity
8 data bits
1 stop bit
No flow controlYou sometimes have to adjust these settings to get your router to accept keyboard input from your computer that is attached to the console port. This is particularly true for Laptops and some KVM’s. I had to change it to 2400,8,none,2,Noflowcontrol for my new 7140 cisco router before I could get any keyboard input to be accepted. This took hours on the phone with CISCO TAC, but now that I know this trick, I don’t freak when I can’t initially talk to a router, Ijust have to spend hours getting the right combo on hyperterm.
Good luck
Geo

I’m not sure if this still applies, or if you have already got the answer, but here goes
1. power off
2. wait 10 secs
3. power on
4. press CTRL-BRK within 10 secs
5. prompt s/b >
6. o/r (RETURN)
7. i (RETURN)
8. choices – configure from scratch
This allows you to create your own config
OR
type “no” (RETURN)
9. prompt s/b hostname (boot) >
10. type “enable” (RETURN)
11. get “hostname #”
12. type “show config”last time I tried this was a year ago, and it showed all passwords
