CISCO ROUTER

By jkartheek ·
I have a Cisco 3600 series router and using this as gateway for nearly 200 machines for the internet. Suppose if want to download or upload into a ftp site it takes more time for that since the bandwidth is being shared by more than 200 machines ata given point of time. Is there any option in the Cisco so that we can set the bandwith for a particular machine so that it gets that dedicated amount of bandwidth.

You could setup priority queueing on the router, and create an queue list to allow certain users traffic to be sent before other users traffic. Be careful with this, because of the way Cisco queueing works, if you set somebody to the low priority, and the link is always busy, the low priority traffic might never be transfered. If you have any questions about this I would be happy to answer them, just go ahead and email me.

The best thing to do is to implement "custom queueing" rather than "priority queueing". It allows you to specify a percentage of bandwidth that you want to allocate to a particular machine/subnet.
Drop me a mail if you want details about specifics on implementing different queueing methods.
