Command In Dos to recognize CD ROM on Wi

By georgie8 ·
Have a game that is to be played in DOS. Game plays off a CD. When I go to DOS and try to install DOS cannot recognize my CD ROM. CD ROM is new and operating OK. Having no hardware problems.

Is there a command?

You should use some IDE/ATAPI driver. The IDE/ATAPI is a standar driver.

first i would advise jedeah before executing
the dos games there is a startup disk utility
hidden in win 98.go to start, programs, click
explorer, then program files, you can see the
PLUS click it,select system and there it is
the nocomp.exe click this oe and it will
prompt you to put your floppy disk in drive
a this startup utility disk is intended for
your most loved dosgames.
next, is my propose resolution to your cd
problem: go to your c:\windows and type dosstart.bat if it will notwork, andou are
in a hurry place your windows98 bootable
diskette that came together with your win98
cdpack when you bought put it on you drive
a and reboot this will recognize your cd rom temporarily. now the most difficult part
is to properly configure yor cd rom in your
cmos from there you can set the correct settings, whether it is in the primary slave
or somewhere. after that save your settings
and exit. reinstall your cdrom generic driver. artemio@emirates.net.ae

If you are exiting windows to get to dos, make sure you modify autoexec.dos and config.dos as well.

If the game is installed go to that dir and creat a short cut to the file that starts the game. Right click on the shortcut and chose proerties. Then chose advanced in this nenu there is an option there that lets you run a dos program and ignor windows. Pick this one and then go through the other options and make sure that programs in background are not running set all the memories as high as they will go. This has worked for many of my old dos games but not all. Sorry I can not remember all the choices in the menues but I have no dos games at work to setup and look at this is just from memory. Good luck

hi,
edit your config.sys in your root directory and try this command:
device=c:\windows\command\oakcdrom.sys /d:oemcd001

then edit your autoexec.bat file and add this command:
c:\windows\command\mscdex /d:oemcd001

you might need to add these commands to your autoexec.dos and config.dos files.
