By georgie8 ·
Have a game that is to be played in DOS. Game plays off a CD. When I go to DOS and try to install DOS cannot recognize my CD ROM. CD ROM is new and operating OK. Having no hardware problems.

Is there a command?

Since you're in Windows 98, there's a quick, easy way to play your game. First, you need to make a Windows 98 start disk. Do this by going to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, click on the Startup Disk tab, then click on the Create Disk... button. Win98 will ask you for a floppy disk, so throw an empty one in to your floppy drive. Once Windows 98 is all done, shut down your programs and then restart Win98 by going to Start -> Shut Down..., selecting Restart, and clicking OK.Make sure you leave the disk in the drive.

Now your computer will restart and load from the floppy drive. Follow the prompts to get the computer to recognize your CD-Rom, etc. Once you get to the A> prompt, you're ready to find and run your game.Switch to the C: drive by typing "C:". Make sure you still have file mscdex.exe and driver for your CDrom drive
Then edit your autoexec.bat config.sys

Or if you have a driver disk from your CDROM, you can install (not setup)
CDROM drive for DOS mode.

an EZ way to create CD Rom support with only Win 98 CD is to create the FAT32 boot disk which supports many CD Rom drives - on Win 98 CD - in \Win98\tools\mtsutil\fat32ebd there is an executable FAT32EBD that will create a boot disk - you can then copy drivers to hard drive and modify config.sys / autoexec.bat

Why worry about a command. Get rid of the DOS game an get a new game that will run under 98. Why would you want to run a DOS game? If you are running 98, the newer games out are much more better.
