Command In Dos to recognize CD ROM on Wi

By georgie8 ·
Have a game that is to be played in DOS. Game plays off a CD. When I go to DOS and try to install DOS cannot recognize my CD ROM. CD ROM is new and operating OK. Having no hardware problems.

Is there a command?

enter the following command in you rstartup files (autoexec.bat and config.sys). the easiest way to edit these files is to choos run from the start menu and run sysedit. in your config.sys enter the following line :

device=c:\windows\command\ebd\oakcdrom.sys /d:oemcd001

in your autoexec.bat :

c:\windows\command\mscdex /d:oemcd001

this is assuming you have win 98.

There are a few ways you can get around this problem.

1. Try installing the program using a DOS session. (START > RUN > TYPE- COMMAND > SYNTAX FOR INSTALLATION)

2. add the following lines to your config.sys and autoexec.bat

Config.sys

Devicehigh=c:\windows\command\oakcd.sys /d:cdrom

Autoexec.bat

LH c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /d:cdrom

This should work fine

There are a few things that you may need to do to have your CD recognized from DOS. Especially if the CD is older, you may need a 16 bit driver loaded by way of your config.sys file. The typical form this takes is:
Device=C:\location_of_driver\driver_name.sys /D:MSCD001

Depending on the driver, there may be other arguments to be added.
Once this line has been parsed by the operating system at startup, you will have access to the driver file listed (driver_name.sys above), and it will produce aninterface through MSCD001 to the MSCDEX.EXE program.

Note that you can call this interface anything you want, but when you access this interface in the arguments that MSCDEX.exe requires, you refer to it whth the same name. An example of a call to mscdex.exe might look like this:

C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001 /E /M:6 /L:Y

This would call the device driver example above, and would try to use extended memory ( /E) it would set the number of buffers to 6 (/M:6) and would set the drive l

I concur with #2, however it removing the rem statment does not work, try rebooting and use the F8 key to come to a command prompt only. Your CD Rom should have come w/an installation disk. From the command promt run the install program. This shouldallow the CD Rom to be run in dos.
