As far as the initial installing the cabling of a network outside the premise and in. And the internet. What type of company would be used for this? Is there a particular type of company that organizations turn to. Or is it just the internet service provider that does all this?

Not, that isn’t the ISP. Everything inside a building is the responsibility of the owner or renter of the building. If he can’t do it himself, he finds a company to do it. Usually it’s part of the job that includes installing the needed hardware.

Some big ISP’s have their own cables throughout the city. But most rely on the public infrastructure of another company to connect your house/office/building to their data center.

I don’t think there’s a standard name. However, the company you buy the equipment from (the Cisco-stuff and such) surely can help you finding one.

Like your local computer shop can either install a WiFi mesh network in your house themselves, or give you the address of a trusted freelancer. How would you call such a person?

Here are 2 examples (NOT meant as a recommendation):
          – nexusdatacommunications.com
          – primedatacommunications.net
A “data communication company” might be clear enough, but I think that’s related to the term I used to search for them in Google.

In fact, usually such an infrastructure in a building is bought “turn key”. So it’s delivered fully working. If the company you buy it from does it with it’s own tech staff or with subcontractors is their problem. Not yours.

I have the impression this is an area you want to work in. Then contact the HR department of a few such companies and ask what kind of education you need to get an interesting job with them when you finished your study. They surely can tell.
