Compaq laptop partitions

By nyguy1060 ·
I recently bought a compaq C304NR notebook that came with XP home pre-installed. There are two partitions or drives. The main C: drive and a drive that has a system recovery program by itself. I want to put XP Pro in there and get rid of Home. Anything I can do without formatting the hard drive?

I assume that what you wish to do is to remove drive D totally and replace Home with Pro.

The first thing to do before anything is to backup data you wish to keep, onto external media, or a second HDD in the system.

You can remove the D drive partion with a utility like Partition Manager.

To get rid of Home and replace with Pro, try just inserting the Pro CD and let it auto start. It may say that you have a later version and do you wish to upgrade? I don't know if this works in XP, but it did in earlier versions of Windows.
