connect XP pro and Vista?

By earmsby ·
I have a client who needs to connect 2 PCs (only the 2 PCs - no other network). One is running Vista and one is running XP pro.

I have read up on how to connect 2 PCs running XP and that seems pretty straightforward using a cross-over cable.

Does anyone know if Vista will work in the same way to do this? I have not had any experience yet with Vista.

Connecting Vista and XP

Vista is pretty funny. It acts very strange i find when it comes to installing applications made for XP Pro. There is no doubt that you will have some difficulty with Vista simply because it is set up differently than any other OS. You should not have any trouble physically connecting the 2 PC's. I find there's more trouble when networks are involved, therefore you may encounter some difficulty when it comes to sharing files but you can easily troubleshoot it by googling it.

Make sure that you either drop the firewall on both PCs or open up ports to allow the traffic.
