connecting 2 pc without a hub

By danny_hw ·
2 pc one win Xp home edition and one win 2000 professional edition, how can I connect the 2 pc together without a hub for file sharing. I was told to connect the 2 pc using an ethernet cable, create a work group, and join the workgroup I wanted to make sure this is the proper procedure

Didn't even know they made a switch that didn't perform routing. Mine all do.

Routing (s)witches

by curlergirl In reply to Uh of course!

Maybe we're talking about a different kind of routing - I'm talking routing between subnets. "They" certainly make both switches that don't route and routers that don't switch. It's the switch hitters that you need to watch out for. . .Never mind!

I often cross connect to three different friends PC's, however I don't use the Internet.
It's just for gaming and file sharing.

I meant Nay!

I'd never use a x-over cable!

AYE AYE SIR!

I once took over management of a network with 6 switches uplinked one to the next to the next. How lame is that? Not as lame as when I figured out that they were uplinked with crossover cables instead of using the uplink port that was meant for such things!!

Router

I vote for the router.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure how I'd be voting if I put "Aye" or "Nay". Were you ever a politician?

Mind you, temporary solutions tend to become permanent after a while, but I've seen more than enough of trouble from bad cabling (and I alays cut a wire I suspect is faulty, don't you?), but for an immediate fix, or on a homenetwork I'm not that picky.
