Corrupt page file

By silver1 ·
Every time I start Windows 2000 pro I get a message that says "Windows doesn't have a page filr or the file is to small" When I check the settings I see a range that has bee set about 500 meg but the actual size says 20 meg. to get around this I have to increase the maximum size by 1 meg and then it seems ok until the next time I restart the Laptop, it starts all over again. I have searched Technet and can't find a solution. Can anyone help?

Can you post the event id # from eventviewer.
I have encountered this once before.
It involved that there were 2 pagefiles created somehow and windows was pointing to the wrong one.
The solution was I think to set the pagefile to 0. Then reboot ,there would be a error on the eventviewer regarding the other pagefile. That one you could delete and then create the appropiate pagefile.

If you can list the errors from the eventlog that would help a lot.

This error happens as soon as windows starts to load. I don't think that the event log service has started at this stage and therefore there isn't any entries in the event log.

It's described in the MS KB article Q25**51.

Thank you for your help the KD Article Q25**51 has fixed my problem. For anyone interested, I removed the group everyone from my security list to try and add some security to laptop. This group cotains a system user that needs full control for varioous reason and on of those is for access to pagefile.sys I add this user back my list and gave it full control and presto problem solved.
