could not complete the action. One or more parameter values are not valid

I have all the Outlook 2003 updates installed, and have re-installed Outlook, but still this error persists……

If I drag an email across and drop onto the Notes icon, it creates a New Note correctly, which I can Edit, Close and Save in the Notes folder.

I can see the list of saved Notes in the folder, Open, Read, Edit & Close them.

I then go back to my Mailbox and continue reading other mail.

After a number of minutes or when I try to close Outlook 2003 I get the following Errors:

“could not complete the action. One or more parameter values are not valid”

    I click OK and get:

“The note will close and your changes will not be saved”

After this the only way to close Outlook is through Ctrl + Alt + Delete and Task Manager.

Add ins have been suggested as a possible cause, but I have re-installed Outlook and the only Add ins are those installed by default.

    Thanks in advance & hope

    Neil

I have the same problem; but it doesn’t matter if I do anything with notes at all. I still get the notes error message when I close Outlook, even if I have not used notes. And I still get frequent errors when I minimize and restore my windows.

I have Vista, no sych software, no Live. Already disabled all com addins – no joy, so I reenabled. Only get problem when I open a note. perfectly reproducible.

More of an annoyance vs. and issue.

I use ACT! SW and even though the latest rev seems pretty stable, I would always look at them as the troublemaker first, due to years and years of experience with them. They attach to Outlook, though not with a COM.

There may be a combined cause. Part of it is using Word as your email editor. If so, uncheck it under Tools, Options. Ensure that you then close both Outlook and Word (if open), then re-launch Outlook. The second part of this with related errors(still not resolved) may be due to an Adobe CS3 plugin.

I have the same exact issue with my Outlook 2003 software. How did you fix this issue?

You have an add-in installed, probably a COM add-in which is using the explorer extension. If it wasn’t coded properly then I would expect this message.
Go to tools–options–other–advanced options. Near the bottom of the screen you will have buttons for the Add-in manager and for the Com Add-ins.

Turn them all off, restart outlook and try to recreate the problem. If all is OK, you can then try turning the add-ins on one at a time to determine which one is at fault.

BTW, just uninstalling Office 2003 the normal way doesn’t do a complete job. You must delete the folder on the C:\ drive and also several entries in the Registry. Only then can you be certain a reinstall sets up correctly.

If nothing works, a reinstall of the OS and program might be the only way to get things working properly.
