At a guess it would say it's how the NB is setup

Presumably without a LAN Cable it defaults to the WiFi Connection but the moment that a CAT 5 Cable is plugged in it defaults to looking for an Internet connection across the LAN Cable.

You need to setup the NB to Default to the WiFi connection and then share that WiFi connection with outer computers connected to the NB.
