Crystal Reports refresh problem

By ozchorlton ·
I'm new to Crystal Reports, and don't have any other IT staff to ask, about it.

Due to a management directive, I cannot give users in our Warehouse access to Excel.
To get around this, and allow them to view information in an, automatically generated, Excel spreadsheet, I have written a small Crystal Report, that reads in the spreadsheet, then outputs it to a Crystal Report, (looks better).

The problem that I am having, is that when I run this report, via Crystal Reports XI, everything works fine, however, when it is run via our 'in-house' report viewer, (written before I started), it shows the report, from the date the report was run, (old data, that is no longer in the spreadsheet). Pressing refresh casuses it to work correctly.

Any ideas how I can prevent the users having to press refresh?

Found the answer :-)

When saving the report, in Crystal Reports, ensure that the 'Preview' window is closed, before saving.

by design window if you close preview
I like the preview window

I have our reports setup to show date prominently at top,

and they are trained to hit 'F5'

to avoid channged reports, our network guy has set the share for the reports as 'read only' which means that it can show a really old date, of when developed.

btw, has 4 dedicated crystal forums, and ittoolbox also has biz obj forum

Save Data With Report

by BAH In reply to Crystal Reports refresh p ...

Use to be in previous versions of Crystal, there was an option to "Save Data" with the report... was under File/Save Data with Report. Make sure that option is unchecked. Don't know about XI, but was in as current as ver 9. Hope this helps.
