dbx folders missing in Outlook Express

An XP Pro Workstation hadd all of its Store Folders *.dbx Folders in Outlook Express replaced with empty default folders. Recreating the Folder.dbx file did not reaccess the folders and Easy Outlook Express Repair, Advanced Outlook Express Repair, and Toolbox for Outlook Express also have had no effect.

Any suggestion as to cause, how to prevent, and or how to restore the folders? The dbx files appear to actually exist in the Outlook Express Folder under Documents and Settings.

OE folder is user specific

by Toivo Talikka In reply to dbx folders missing in Ou ...

The Outlook Express folder with the .dbx files is specific to each user. Therefore, if the user's login name has changed, a new set of empty folders or .dbx files will be created automatically.

If you can find the old Outlook Express folder in a previous user profile under Documents and Settings, you can rename the Outlook Express folder which has the empty .dbx files to e.g. Outlook Express.blank and copy the old Outlook Express folder to the same location:

Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{a long hexadecimal number}\Microsoft.
