Delay in Win XP Pro with IP Printers

I'm having a bit of a delay with regards to printing in our retail environment. Here's our setup. We've got a server system, and 2 additional systems that act as cash terminals. We've got 2 IP based printers (Epson TM-T88IV, they're thermal receipt printers). The printers are installed locally so it doesn't clog up a single system. The receipts themselves are all text based, no graphics, not even a logo, so the files are miniscule. Our cash drawers are also hooked into our printers.

So, when we complete a transaction in the terminals, there's a longer than usual delay in sending out the print, which also results in a delay in the cash drawer opening. I've talked with our POS providers, and we've got everything optimized according to them. However, one of their IT guys mentioned that XP sometimes has a delay of up to 3 seconds prior to printing.

For most retail environments, it's not a big deal. But we're high volume, and we can have over 200 transactions in an hour. So, those extra few seconds add up.

This wasn't a problem until we recently replaced our older terminals (on Windows 2000) to our XP terminals. The new terminals have 768 mb of RAM. Our current server is still running Windows 2000, but I don't think that's the issue. We have another location that's running XP Pro for the server, and we've got the same issues.

Any suggestions on where I go from here?

Thanks for the help but I was up until 3 am last night and resolved both the
print speed and drawer kick issues. The drawer kick was at first solved by
clicking a check mark on the Operation tab of the Printers properties. This
was while I was using the Advanced Windows Printer driver. I tried to put
Epson's OPOS on the machine (and add the printer device in the OPOS software)
but was still having problems until I deleted the printer and started again.
This got the speed issue fixed but broke the kick drawer problem (which, in
hindsight, broke when the Windows driver was removed). Finally, I went back
into the OPOS software and added the cash drawer as a device and let the
master device be the printer driver. Tested it in MSPOS and it worked (at
which point I cried from lack of sleep and frustration). It has worked fine
all day. "
